Great Place to Work’s Great Rated has listed the top large technology companies based on surveys of employees taking in everything from a work-life balance to compensation and health benefits. “Each technology firm has its unique company culture that makes it successful,” says China Gorman, global CEO of Great Place to Work. “However, one common theme we saw across all of the companies that were surveyed is trust in the workplace.
San Francisco-based Riverbed Technology engineers software to help companies improve network performance. Employees laud the company’s environment as welcoming and comfortable, with ever-present snacks and programs that kick in a little extra for commuting costs and gym memberships. Other perks include a matching 401(k) program and a program to help parents transition back to the workplace after the birth or adoption of a child, as well as maternity and paternity benefits and up to $5,000 for adoption costs.
Another California company, salesforce.com provices CRM and cloud computing services that enable clients to sell, service and market their customers through mobile, social and cloud technology platforms. Some perks to make life easier include a daily free breakfast, massage therapy and 32 holidays and vacation days after one year of employment.
The not-so-little social media platform has a following both external and internal. With a fully paid company health plan and 60% coverage for dependents, it’s no wonder happy healthy people fly through the twitter halls. On top of that, the employer provides free lunches and breakfasts on a daily basis. But with generous vacation packages, onsite cafes and weekly happy hours, happiness is only a tweet away.
The North Carolina analytic software company has almost everything you could need on site: banking, a hair salon, fitness classes. In addition, the company provides employees with an unlimited number of paid sick days. When asked, 82% of employees say their managers often or almost always act with integrity and care, are competent in their positions and provide clear directions and vision for the organization.
Hyland is a tech firm that helps clients digitize, organize and store documents. It established itself in Westlake, Ohio, with fun in mind. For instance, one building uses slides to connect the first and second floors. Another has a gym and a Ping Pong table and another is equipped with a pool table and video games. If that isn’t enough, once a year, Hyland shuts down its headquarters and treats every employee to two tickets to the Cedar Point amusement park, plus a parking pass and $20.
The Connecticut financial analytic giant provides its employees with a small-company feel with many departments organizing summer outings for their teams including barbecues, food trucks and ice cream socials in the courtyard.
No stranger to topping charts, Google marks #4 in Great Place’s to Work’s list of top tech companies. Google provides all employees access to a quick snooze in one of the many nap pods on campus. Providing a secluded, relaxing environment for employees to take a quick power nap, who wouldn’t love working here? In addition, Google hosts an array of themed events where employees let loose and have fun, such as Googleween, April Fool’s day and Oktoberfest.
Ultimate Software, of Weston, Fla., makes software aimed to help benefits managers with recruiting, hiring and onboarding. The employer has offices equipped with air hockey, foosball tables, darts, Wii games, Nerf basketball and TVs that employees are welcome to use during breaks. In addition, the company recently launched a new program to encourage transparency allowing different departments to gain cross-functional experiences by switching places with each other for a day. How fun!
WWT is a systems integrator that helps solve a range of IT challenges. Headquarter in St. Louis, Mo., has a 6% match in employee 401(k)s in addition to offering all employees proportionate to their salaries derived from a 3% share of the company’s net income. The employer also offers a tuition-reimbursement program that pays for half of the tuition, fees and books for coursework related to an employee’s job.
A provider of cloud-based applications for human resources and finance, the tech giant is located in Pleasanton, Calif., and takes the word pleasant literally. Workday has software development offices around the globe including Ireland and Germany. With a manager’s approval, U.S.-based engineers can go work at one of these locations for four weeks. Another perk is the company’s unlimited time off policy. Employees aren’t given a set amount of time off, nor do they have to accrue it. When time off is needed, employees, on the honor system, just need to make arrangements with managers prior to leaving.
